Wash a SACK of live crawfish or seafood clean in minutes.

Faster, easier and less work than washing in an ice chest or pool. Superior cleaning with no more crawfish escaping while washing.

Crawfish, crayfish, crawdads, freshwater or mountain lobsters, mudbugs or yabbies…
Whatever you call ’em, Cowboy’s Crawfish Washer can wash them clean.

The Crawfish Washer’s extra-large 70-quart pail can hold up to a full sack of crawfish and will wash them clean in just a few minutes. The Crawfish Washer includes a bottom drain plug, allowing mud and debris to be flushed out the bottom while grass and dirty water flow over the brim. This Washer is great for crawfish, shellfish and other seafood, large catches of fish or large volume washing of upland game.

How it works

  • Attach Crawfish Washer to a standard water hose and begin filling with water
  • Add 20-40 lbs of live crawfish
  • Open the drain at the bottom
  • The constant flow of clean water will wash the crawfish as they gently spin
  • Grass and debris are flushed over the top
  • Mud and sand is flushed out of the bottom drain
  • When the water clears, crawfish are ready to go into the boil
  • Drain and dump crawfish directly into the pot

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Crawfish Washer process work?

There are a few ways you can do it and you may need to experiment and see what works best for you. I like to fill the Washer ¾ full of water. Then while running, start dumping crawfish into the Washer. Once I have 20lbs to 25lbs in the Washer, I stop and let it run a bit. The water will be very dirty. After the water has run over the top for a short time, I remove the bottom drain cap. I let water flush over top and out the drain at the same time. As it is running, I pick out any large debris such as bait, fish, grass, dead crawfish, etc. The longer the water runs the clearer the water becomes.

Once the water clears, the crawfish are clean. Do not expect the crawfish to spin real fast.  The water is still passing thru them and flushing them clean. To speed up the process, you can take a paddle and stir them occasionally. Because fresh crawfish are so muddy, it may help to tip the pail a bit to pour some of the extra dirty water out at the beginning of the wash. Then continue as normal. This simply speeds up the process by getting the real dirty water out quickly.

How many crawfish can you wash at one time?

It all depends on your water pressure. With good water pressure you should be able to wash 30-40lbs of crawfish with no problem. I would start with 20lbs or half a sack and add more as your pressure allows.

What about dead crawfish?

In most cases the dead crawfish will float to the surface. I simply pluck them out or use a the dip net to remove them while the Washer is running.

What happens if the drain clogs?

Drain clogging can happen occasionally. If the drain clogs, simple push a screwdriver into the drain from the outside. That should free the drain. If the crawfish are very small and the drain keeps clogging, you can leave the screwdriver in the drain while running. That should keep anything from entering the drain area while still allowing the water to exit.

What if my crawfish have a lot of grass?

The Crawfish Washer will not remove exessive amounts of grass. Certain amounts will float over the top and some will exit the drain. It may be necessary sometimes to scoop out excess grass as the Washer is running.

What if my water pressure is low or I put too many crawfish in the washer at once?

The crawfish do not need to move a lot. The water is passing thru and around them. If they are not moving at all, you can take a paddle and stir them occasionally. All you want is for the water to clear. It’s all about water pressure. You may need to experiment and wash fewer crawfish at a time until you find out how many pounds of crawfish your water pressure can move. Clean a few pounds and place them in a cooler, then wash some more crawfish.

What if I like to purge my crawfish with salt?

If you purge with salt, you should do it in the washer. Clean the crawfish first as described. Once clean, drain the water down to the desired amount and add the salt. After they have purged or rested the appropriate amount of time, turn on the water and flush again.

What else can I wash in the Crawfish Washer?

This makes an excellent Washer for large animal quarters. You can place deer or hog quarters and in 2 or 3 minutes, they are clean as ever. They may not spin but water does rush over them. I have a stick to stir or move them occasionally. Try it; you will not want to use a hose to spray them off again. Also, you can use it for large volumes of upland game like pheasants or chucker, or if you are cleaning hundreds of small birds, or even if you are cleaning a large catch of fish. You can wash anything that will fit in the pail and it will expedite your cleaning process.
